You’ve probably heard the saying, “You can have something good, fast, or cheap—pick two.” It’s like the unicorn of project management—sounds magical, but doesn’t exist. Especially in video marketing. Let’s break down why this is one of the few clichés that’s actually true.

GOOD and CHEAP? Don’t Hold Your Breath

Who doesn’t love a great deal? However, here’s the catch: if you’re opting for something good and inexpensive, it won’t be swift. High-quality work requires time. Imagine asking a chef to prepare a gourmet meal for the price of a burger. You might receive your meal, but it will take a while, and likely involve some inventive cost-cutting.

The same applies to explainer videos. When a service provider aims to deliver superior content at a low cost, they invest a lot of time into ensuring everything is perfect. This results in slower turnaround times. Yes, you’re saving money, but you’ll need to exercise some serious patience. Patience is a virtue, isn’t it?”

GOOD and FAST? Get Ready to Pay Up

Need something done yesterday? If you desire top-notch explainer videos, delivered at a rapid pace, be prepared to make a significant investment. This combination is akin to a luxury box experience—it’s pricey, but you’re granted premium service. It’s all about resource allocation—skilled professionals working overtime, cutting-edge technology, perhaps even a ‘magic wand’ (though, we admit, that’s a bit of an exaggeration).

In the realm of video marketing, this equates to paying a premium for swift, superior results. This is a wise choice if you’re working under a tight deadline and can’t afford delays. However, be cautioned: this may result in an impressive video, matched only by an equally impressive invoice.

CHEAP and FAST? Good Luck With That

We all love a bargain and we all love things done quickly. However, there’s a heads-up—if your explainer videos are both inexpensive and hastily produced, don’t anticipate high quality. It’s akin to expecting a gourmet meal from a fast-food joint. Hint: it’s unlikely.

Hasty work often results in oversights, subpar visuals, and a final product that might be cringe-worthy. In video marketing, this can harm your brand more than it aids. You might save time and money initially, but you could end up spending more later to rectify the issues. Or, even worse, your video might fail to impress, similar to a dad joke at a teenager’s birthday party.

The Bottom Line: Priorities, People!

So, what’s the takeaway? In video marketing, having it all is a rarity, much like encountering a unicorn. You must determine your project’s top priority. Is it quality, speed, or cost? Choose judiciously, young apprentice.

The “Good – Fast – Cheap” triangle isn’t just a catchphrase—it’s a dose of reality. Therefore, when you’re planning a project, be it explainer videos or any other aspect of your marketing strategy, be crystal clear about your priorities. Your peace of mind will appreciate it.

Remember, you can have two out of three, but having all three is a challenge, unless you possess a time-travel device. In that case, let’s have a conversation—we have much to discuss.

Explainer videos are often underrated in the marketing realm. Their value to a brand and product goes beyond mere metrics. Why? There is only one reason: Videos are the most loved form of media consumption.

Consider this: whether it’s a lecture on quantum mechanics, a how-to guide for repairing your laptop, or a DIY tutorial on building a table lamp, 99% of us prefer videos 90% of the time over blogs or infographics. Do you know why?

It’s because visuals simplify concepts in an easy-to-understand way. The power of visuals is truly ‘beyond words.’ When complex ideas are presented through visual storytelling, they become much easier to grasp.

This is especially crucial in a time when attention spans are shorter than a finger snap.

As the name suggests, explainer videos specifically serve this purpose. A well-crafted explainer video script conveys concepts in the simplest manner, ensuring that the audience gains a clear understanding of the product.

This is why SaaS companies love explainer videos. When they go too technical and complex, they turn to professional script writers to turn their software into a story.

Look at TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. These platforms are among the most consumed media on the internet because they tell a story in 30 seconds or less. They entertain, educate, and enlighten viewers.

So, the next time you have something complex to explain, think of explainer videos.

The digital space is cluttered with junk emails, ads that make no sense, flashy logos and evidently persuading copies.

Reality is, none of them actually works. Yes, in a minimal margin. But there is a better way.

Being authentic.

Authenticity really stands out as a way to connect your audience with your brand. Not boasting copies or one-of-a-kind designs.

Here’s why it is so:

• Authenticity is Trust: You know it when your brand values are in sync with the action. People trust by what you do, not by what you promise.

• Relatability Over Perfection: Perfect brands are usually out of reach. It is the honest human side which really makes the brand relatable.

• Uniqueness: Being unique has become boring these days. The true strength of a brand is in its difference (not uniqueness). Show true stories and values to the audience.

• Authentic Engagement: Sharing a message and not responding or listening to the audience is like talking through a radio. Make engagements not announcements.

It is through authenticity, being true and genuine, that one can actually make their brand outstanding. Today, authenticity may seem to be a trend, but it really is a very powerful way to achieve long lasting relationships and loyalty.

Share your thoughts! 💭

With millions of pieces of content available, is writer’s block overrated?

I’m not denying writer’s block. Regardless of what you’re doing, you might get stuck with the flow of thoughts. For creative people, this can be a deal breaker, affecting their mood, work, and sometimes even the quality of life.

But let’s think this through. What causes writer’s block? It’s often the lack of clear and satisfying ideas to move forward, right? If you’re stuck, what can you do? Find better ideas.

And, how can you do that?

By exploring the millions of pieces of content around us that might spark ideas. It’s not always about consuming more content, though. Do whatever stimulates your creativity and helps you come up with something good and satisfying to progress in your work.

I’ve made several excuses with writer’s block, but I once read a book where the author questioned the very existence of writer’s block. I find some fact in that perspective.

Finding ideas today isn’t so difficult. When you’re experiencing writer’s block, expose yourself to inspiring content, take a walk, or visit a friend. There are many ways to overcome writer’s block.

So next time, don’t use writer’s block as an excuse. Instead, find what actions can help you move forward.

Let “writer’s block” not interfere with your work and mood.

“Good artists copy. Great artists steal.” – Pablo Picasso

The most challenging aspect of staying ahead of trends is keeping up to date, which is essential in every field – fashion, tech, design, writing, and beyond.

Staying updated often means following trends rather than setting them. Not everyone is a trendsetter. Some people adapt and improve upon existing trends.

For writers and filmmakers, staying competitive involves following other creators and drawing inspiration from them; in a more casual sense, stealing.
Before crafting a blog, script, music video, film, or social media short, dive yourself into references. Consume as much relevant content as you can, and take note of what works for you.

Keep a dedicated document or note for these insights. Whenever you’re creatively challenged, refer back to this collection. Read it, steal it, and improve upon it.

However you copy, make it your own. Avoid creating something that feels like a mere copy. Steal creatively and present it artistically.

Stay creative! Happy stealing!

We all call ourselves “writers,” yet most of us spend our time “typing.” I see typing as writing with consequences, that is, physical issues that come from prolonged writing.

Common issues I face:

Wrist Pain: Painful beyond expectation.
Eye Dryness: Your tears won’t be helpful.
Back Pain: Not from responsibilities.
Dehydration

Here’s what how I manage them:

Adjust Your Seating: If you’re not feeling wrist pain, you’re probably doing it right.

Follow the 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Use an Ergonomic Chair: If you can’t, raise your seat height and use back support.

Stay Hydrated: Keep a water bottle within reach and drink regularly.

Apart from these, I take the stairs instead of elevators and walk frequently for both physical and mental relief.

For proper posture management, I recommend consulting with an expert.

Writers, take care of your health!

“People forget facts, but they remember stories.” – Joseph Campbell
___

Stories have been a part of human life since the very beginning. In fact, stories began right when humans started thinking.

What makes stories so powerful is how they effectively carry ideas. Whether it’s a complex quantum theory or a really tough coding language, when these concepts are told through stories, they’re much easier to understand.

Stories can even bend facts. Not in a misleading way even though there is that, but in a way that fits what we need to convey. The story decides which side of the fact is highlighted.

This flexibility, along with the emotional connection stories create, makes them powerful tools for branding.

The secret to a great brand is telling great stories. Big brands like Apple, Nike, and Coca-Cola stick in our minds because of the stories they tell.

So, to create a good brand, we need good stories. And for a great brand, we need a great story.

Writing can be overwhelming, but there’s a way to tackle it!
__

Writing is more than just putting words on paper. It’s about solving problems. The raw, unstructured form of your ideas can be intimidating. I’ve been there, and one key lesson I’ve learned is the importance of staying organized.

Many writers use various organizing techniques to stay on track. Breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable pieces not only improves workflow but also brings peace of mind.

Whether you’re writing for a brand, a story, or a film, the brain-aches can be real. Staying organized is the solution, and finding a method that works for you is essential.

Next time you write, try using sticky notes. They’re colorful, easily accessible, and a great way to manage your workflow and reduce those brain-aches. 🧠

The post Isn’t Writer’s Block overrated? appeared first on Shahin M S.

“Good artists copy. Great artists steal.” – Pablo Picasso
__

The post Good artists copy, but great artists steal! appeared first on Shahin M S.

The post Writing Has Become Typing with Consequences appeared first on Shahin M S.

The post People forget facts, but they remember stories! appeared first on Shahin M S.

The post Writing is a painful task! appeared first on Shahin M S.
